OUR STORY

I've been blessed to work closely with our medical communities for the past 15 years as a physician liaison. During this time, I met many Veterans as they faced many health challenges. I spent much of my time listening to their stories while also working to determine the best care for them. I enjoyed their stories and was always touched by their bravery, loyalty to their mission, but, most of all, it was their kindness that resonated with me.
Their faces would light up as they shared many of their stories and I could tell each one was very special to them. It was as if they were sharing a priceless old photograph they kept tucked in their heart as they relish the best and perhaps also the worst time in their life. They spoke of hospitality, cultural experiences, and unforgettable brotherhood. It was inspiring to hear them talk about moments of kindness, especially in the midst of war, where they experienced trauma, torture, injury, and the grief of losing close friends. I often wondered why, after just one conversation, it felt as though we had known each other for years, exchanging stories about war, family, and daily life. Perhaps we have a God connection because quite often our conversations would lead to God and the bible.
The Veterans Affairs Healthcare System became like a second home to me, as I was there almost daily. The VA waiting rooms often felt like a family room, where we’d watch cooking shows, share stories, and wait for the doctor. As I met more Veteran patients each day, I recognized a profound need for them to have an outlet to share their stories. Our Lord then began to plant seeds in my mind, and the vision for a creative arts ministry blossomed with each passing month. I realized then that
it was a divine calling, and the words of Isaiah 61:3 were to be the heartbeat of Faith & Arts Fellowship, marking the next chapter of my life.
Each day, Soldiers and First Responders battle for righteousness, protecting and saving lives. Sadly, many return home carrying both physical and emotional pain. Our team provides Military Service Members, Veterans, and their families with a creative outlet to help them cope with stress and heal the wounds of trauma caused by war. Our mission is to support Veterans and Service Members and share their stories and express themselves through praise and creativity. I believe that the act of expressing ourselves and creating something meaningful connects us with our Creator. It brings us into His presence. We are made in God’s image, designed to create just as He does. Let’s remember that our Father is a mighty healer who has given each of us a unique talent and gift. When we engage in fellowship and creativity, we enter into His peace and joy. I have witnessed the amazing transformation of Veterans during our workshops—their mood and demeanor shift from gloom to joy once they start creating and connecting with others! They leave energized and happy, their spirits soaring and motivated to create even more.
Social interaction and fellowship are powerful and enjoyable ways to heal, and we encourage Veterans, Service Members, and our youth to create and connect during our workshops. Reach for a paintbrush instead of your computer, paint a beautiful scene, or join us in planting a garden. Come to our workshops to write a song and release your emotions through writing, or express yourself through dance movements that can bring healing to your soul.
Reach out to us and we will connect you with a trusted support network of mental health counselors and artistic mentors. Many of us have survived the cruelty of war and found healing when we use our God-given gifts. We also encourage Veterans and families to forgive. We know it's difficult to forgive yourself and others when you have been hurt and betrayed. We encourage you to try and try again. Don't give up. Reach out to Our Lord, read the bible and discover how grace can renew your life and how you can begin to live with more peace. Pray and find a godly friend if you need to talk. Or write a letter to our Lord. Connect with Our Father in Heaven and you will see how light can begin to take over the dark places of your mind and heart. Have faith and trust that soon you will begin a journey to your purpose with lasting joy, peace and good health. We look forward to create and fellowship with you. Be blessed!
